Tea and the Solar Terms

Tea Talks About the Solar Terms - Minor Cold

The Lesser Cold is a time of biting cold, marking the beginning of the coldest period of the year. It is the twenty-third of the twenty-four solar terms.
An old saying goes, "The coldest days are during the third nine-day period of winter, and the coldest days are during the Lesser Cold." Although it is called "Lesser Cold," it actually foreshadows a further drop in temperature and the prelude to the harsh winter.

The Lesser Cold is also an important period for winter health preservation. There is a folk custom of "winter nourishment". People eat warm foods such as mutton soup and longan tea to dispel cold, warm the body, and store energy.
Alternatively, you can choose some sweet foods to harmonize the spleen and stomach and nourish qi and blood, such as yam, pumpkin, red dates, longan, and white fungus.
Adding appropriate amounts of spices such as coriander, pepper, green onions, ginger, and cinnamon can promote blood circulation and help prevent colds.

Although the Lesser Cold brings intense chill, it also reveals the resilience of life; plum blossoms are budding and waiting to bloom, and the magpie's clear call heralds the approaching spring.
Warmth is hidden even in the cold, just as there is always a glimmer of hope behind every difficulty in life.
