Tea and the Solar Terms

Tea Talk on the Solar Terms - Beginning of Spring

After a long and comfortable holiday, we welcome the first of the twenty-four solar terms, the Beginning of Spring.

As the starting point of the solar terms, the Beginning of Spring signifies the end of winter and the start of spring, when all things awaken and flourish. The saying "A year's plan starts in spring" not only reminds us of the importance of farming at the Beginning of Spring but also implies the need for careful planning at the start of the year, and for calm and measured action. At this time, we can cultivate our minds with tea, quietly observing new buds sprouting from withered branches, deeply breathing in the gentle warmth of spring in the breeze, and making deeper hopes and blessings for the new year, so that everything will proceed smoothly.
During the Spring Equinox, it is essential to nourish the liver. Dietary care should be light and avoid greasy foods. Eat more spicy, warm, sweet and moist foods such as dates, cherries, honey, radishes, and tender vegetables such as scallions, garlic, leeks, knotweed, and mustard.
Seasonal foods: bamboo shoots, tomatoes, scallions, garlic, toon sprouts, bean sprouts, mackerel, and red snapper.
Come on! Nourish your body during the Beginning of Spring!
We invite you to join us for a quiet cup of tea. ( ´∀`)つ旦
